“A purple gallinule steps carefully upon the pads of water lilies. This stunningly beautiful bird can be found in the American south in wetlands where it gleams gemlike in precious wetlands. In this painting I have tried to portray the rich ultramarine breast plumage which gradates to luminous cobalt and cerulean blues on the back and then to greens toward the tail. The scene was inspired during a visit to Attwater’s Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge in Texas.” Andrew Peters
