“My still lifes really aren’t about the things in the still life but the overall design. How I can make things fit into a rectangular or square space so that it appears to have been found that way? We had an old iron kettle when I was a kid and I always thought it was interesting. At the time, it was mostly used as a door stop, a good place jam a toe into. I thought it fit in with the oranges, candy tin and rose leaves. It was fun to keep the shadows on the kettle transparent.” Jean Chambers
