“The Letter”
I was inspired by the light when I painted the reading letter’s girl. She is Miao, one of the largest minority populations, most of whom live in Guizhou province in southwest China.
The girl dresses in a traditional outfit: silver head crown, silver necklace, and blue coat with embroidered pattern. Even the yellow umbrella is a popular tool for them. All of these appeared as a fascinating scene under the sun. The especially reflective lighting dominated the painting, and it made the subject brilliant and enchanting, setting off the shamrock and chartreuse wall background. I want the viewer to feel peaceful and harmonious when you look at this painting and forget the still marvelous view of daily urban life. Jie Wie Zhou
