“Race To The Finish Line”
“I created this painting completely from my emotions, reminiscing on canvas about the unforgettable and happy childhood I once had. The picture shows what I saw and felt when I was traveling and painting plein air in Giuzhou province China many years ago. One afternoon, a group of children were riding bicycles on a dirt road on the hillside of the village. There was a competition going on. Their silhouettes, voices, noises, and bicycles rolling flickered and echoed in the dusty air. There was a family walking in the distance. This all attracted me deeply and stayed in my mind.
Not surprisingly, the scene depicted in this painting incorporates some of my own childhood memories of bicycle games. It affected me deeply and has stayed with me throughout the years.
I am very happy that this painting won the Best of Show at the Colorado Governor Art Show in May 2021.” Jie Wei Zhou
