“Sisters”
“The inspiration of “Sisters” came from my visit to a rural countryside in the southwest of China years ago. There, two sisters in the market caught my eye. I tried to express my passion and display their characteristics on the canvas. In the painting, the younger sister was in the foreground. She held her chin with both hands and her eyes stared forward, expecting someone to come to their place. The older sister put her right hand on her sister’s shoulder, which implied a compassionate relationship and a bond between them. Note that her left hand held a red pepper, and shadow peppers still remained in the basket, which hinted that she paid attention to her business. She dressed in a fuchsia jacket with a yellow seater inside, and she had a bow on her head with a silver hair clip, which completely revealed her character, confident and full of positive energy. The outline of figures formed a pyramidal shape that made a steady composition. The color of the figures and basket were set off by the light gray background that made the harmonious and vivid tone. Standing before the painting, I hope you feel a sense of peace and love.” Jie Wei Zhou
