Jim Dodson biography

Jim Dodson was born and raised in the rustic surroundings of Lake Murray State Park near Ardmore, Oklahoma. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for over eight years. While stationed at Forbes Air Force Base, in Topeka, Kansas, Jim’s talents were recognized. The Air Force utilized his skill by placing him as an instructor and supervisor of the civil engineering sign shop. Later he served as NCOIC of base recreation. Jim’s office was located in the arts and crafts department. Here he had his first experience with clay sculpture and other mediums. In the early ’70’s he was transferred overseas to Karmursel, Turkey, where he developed a dynamic arts and crafts program for the base. While in Turkey, Jim continued his college education as a business major. Upon leaving the Air force, Jim returned to Oklahoma, where he enrolled at South Eastern University, and changed his major to art.  There he met his mentor, Jim Miller.  Mr. Miller had already made his mark in the art world and he encouraged Jim to become a full-time artist.
