This commemorative bronze medallion was created by renowned Chiricahua Apache sculptor Allan Houser in 1989 for the Denver Rotary Club’s annual Artists of America exhibition. The medallion was distributed to attendees at the exhibition’s opening night on September 15, 1989, as both a keepsake and a celebration of the featured artist’s work.
Houser, already a highly celebrated Native American artist at the time, was invited to contribute the design as part of a yearly tradition. Each year, the Rotary Club selected one artist to produce an original artwork for a bronze medallion, which was then used to help raise funds for the Rotary Club Foundation’s philanthropic efforts.
