Chuck Middlekauff’s journey as an artist reflects a colorful blend of influences and experiences that have shaped his unique artistic style. Born in Massachusetts and raised in a military family, he developed a fascination for the sights and sounds encountered during cross-country trips, particularly in the American West. Inspired by TV Westerns and childhood games of cowboys and Indians, Chuck’s early artistic endeavors were simple doodles to entertain his peers.

After serving in the Navy and exploring various careers, including drafting and commercial design, Middlekauff’s true passion for art emerged during his time at Metropolitan State University and the Colorado Institute of Art. These educational experiences deepened his understanding of art theory, design principles, and creative thinking, setting the stage for his transition into a full-time fine art career in 1992.

Chuck’s art is a celebration of Americana, capturing the nostalgia and charm of everyday objects and scenes from the American West. His subjects range from cowboys, rusty windmills, and vintage gas pumps to iconic symbols like Coca-Cola machines and worn-out toys. His work often incorporates elements of humor, nostalgia, and sentimentality, creating compositions that juxtapose unexpected elements in a playful and engaging manner.

In his studio, Chuck finds inspiration in music, cranking up tunes from artists like Alan Jackson, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and John Mellencamp as he paints. This creative environment fuels his process of combining disparate elements into cohesive and whimsical artworks that evoke a sense of joy and lightheartedness.
