Dennis Schmidt biography
Dennis Schmidt’s journey as an artist is impressive, with a diverse background that blends craftsmanship and creative talent. His early years as a welder and machinist likely influenced his art, lending a solid understanding of structure and form to his work. The fact that he transitioned from that to a full-time painting career in the late ’70s speaks to his dedication and passion for his craft.
His recognition in the art world, especially in Western and Texan circles, is noteworthy. The fact that he had the first solo show at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame in 1978 shows how highly his work was regarded early on. Winning “Best of Show” and “Popular Choice” awards repeatedly also suggests he was well-loved by both critics and the general public.
Dennis participates in the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Governor’s Invitational as well as the Great American Artist’s Exhibition and Sale in Terrace Park Cincinnati, Ohio; the Gilcrease Museum Miniatures Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Mountain Oyster Club Show in Tucson, Arizona and the Museum of Western Art Annual Roundup in Kerrville, Texas.
