“Midnight Dancers” won ‘Cyrus Dallin Award for Best Sculpture’ at the “Quest for the West” show and sale at the Eiteljorg Museum, 2014.
“These dances are not shows but religious ceremonies. Many began at sunset on Christmas Eve with bonfires lighting the way for baby Jesus’ birth. After Midnight Mass the pueblo will celebrate with various dances, such as Buffalo, Deer and Antelope. As a young man in my teens, I attended many dances while studying art at the Institute for American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. They created lasting impressions of spirit, traditions and visual effects… night dancers in full dress on a cold snowy night will haunt your memories.” – Doug Hyde
