Duke Beardsley biography:

Born in Denver, Colorado in 1969, Duke Beardsley is a fifth-generation Coloradan whose deep Western roots are inseparable from the subjects he paints. Splitting his childhood between the city and his family’s cattle ranch in eastern Colorado, Duke grew up immersed in the contrasting worlds of urban life and wide-open range. This duality continues to define his work—a dynamic blend of modern design and traditional Western iconography that bridges the past and present of the American West.

Duke has been drawing and painting scenes of cowboy life for as long as he can remember. His bold, contemporary interpretations of classic Western themes have made him a standout voice in the genre and a favorite among collectors of contemporary Western art.

His work has been featured in major exhibitions nationwide, including the Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale, the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale, the C.M. Russell Exhibition and Sale, and the Colorado Governor’s Invitational Art Exhibit. In 2007, Duke’s paintings were featured in Out West: The Great American Landscape, a groundbreaking exhibition of contemporary Western art that toured China, introducing international audiences to a fresh vision of the American frontier.

In 2008, the Colorado Council on the Arts selected his piece Colorado Horsepower as the official award for the Colorado Governor’s Art Award—an honor recognizing his distinctive contribution to the state’s artistic heritage.

Today, Duke’s work is held in prestigious public and private collections worldwide, including the Forbes Collection, the Denver Art Museum, the Booth Western Art Museum, and the State of Colorado.

A graduate of the Art Center College of Design, Duke lives and works in Colorado with his wife and two daughters, continuing to explore and redefine the visual language of the contemporary American West.
