After moving to Utah, in order to pursue her interest in sculpture, Hollebeke studied the basics with Ed Fraughton, whose work she had greatly admired. Karin Hollebeke art artist western oil paintingsTom Lovell, another veteran Western artist, significantly influenced her painting style. His advice guided her to finding her own style, which has earned her international recognition.  In 1995, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation chose one of her paintings as a collector series print, and the University of Nebraska Press used two of her paintings for book covers titled Covered Wagon Women. In 1998, her artwork was included in the book Art of the American West, published by Rockport Publishers.
