Linda Dobkin Biography:

Linda Dobkin (1948-2025) was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. After moving to Tucson, Arizona, in 1975, she returned to her early interest in art by enrolling in classes and exploring a variety of artistic mediums. Her studies began with graphite and colored pencil, followed by drawing and design courses at Pima Community College.

Linda eventually turned her attention to painting, working in both acrylics and oils before choosing oil as her primary medium. She was drawn to the richness and versatility of oils as a way to capture the beauty, character, and atmosphere of the world around her. Her artistic education continued through workshops and instruction with distinguished artists including Joni Falk, Hedi Moran, and Jean Chambers at the Scottsdale Artists School.

An accomplished instructor as well as an artist, Linda has taught painting to students of many ages and abilities. She taught classes through the Arthritis Foundation, where painting served as a creative and therapeutic outlet for people living with arthritis. Her artwork was also selected for the Foundation’s holiday cards on several occasions. Linda has designed T-shirts for local schools and worked with elementary school students as an instructional aide, incorporating art into their educational experience.

Linda’s work has received numerous awards and ribbons at exhibitions throughout Arizona, including recognition at Pima Community College and the Tubac Center of the Arts. Over the years, her paintings have been featured in a wide range of juried exhibitions, galleries, publications, and special events throughout the state and beyond.

Among her notable exhibitions and honors are Bailes Artist of the Year in 2016, with a reception at the Mountain Oyster Club; appearances in Tucson Lifestyle Magazine; participation in the Empire Ranch Show from 2006 through 2014; the Salon International Show at Legacy Gallery in 2011 and 2012; a demonstration for Scottsdale Artists School in 2011; and multiple exhibitions at the Mountain Oyster Club. Her work has also been included in the Tucson Museum of Art’s Crush Show, the C.M. Russell Museum Miniatures Show, and the Tucson Plein Air Distinguished Artist exhibition.

Linda’s work reflects her deep appreciation for the people, landscapes, and distinctive character of the Southwest, while drawing on a lifetime of artistic exploration and continued study.

She is a member of the Salmagundi Club of New York City and Oil Painters of America.
