Scott Tallman Powers biography:

Scott Tallman Powers was born in 1972 in Birmingham, Alabama. His artistic journey began in childhood, drawing alongside his father, a medical illustrator, photographer, and fine artist. Watching his father work and learning from him fostered an early and lasting love of art.

Scott’s formal education began in high school, where he studied under two highly influential and supportive art instructors. Their encouragement led him to pursue four years of intensive study at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. There, he received rigorous training in oil painting, watercolor, drawing, anatomy, and sculpture from a distinguished group of instructors.

Following his studies at the Academy, Scott spent several years working as an illustrator for a Chicago advertising agency before ultimately pursuing his dream of becoming a full-time fine artist. He is also the founder of the Plein Air Painters of Chicago, a weekly outdoor painting group dedicated to the practice and camaraderie of painting from life throughout the Chicago area.

Scott draws inspiration from cultures around the world, as well as from the diverse experiences found within his own. At the heart of his artistic journey is the human element—the people, places, cultures, and experiences that have shaped his understanding of the world. His extensive travels have taken him to many countries in search of the inspiration he thrives on, allowing him to explore the connections and contrasts between cultures.

Through his work, Scott strives to tell stories and convey experiences with honesty, sensitivity, and integrity. His paintings reflect an ongoing search for balance and understanding across cultures and communities—a passion that continues to grow with every journey, experience, and mile traveled.

Scott’s work is held in private collections throughout the United States and internationally. His paintings are also included in the permanent collections of three museums: the Wengyuan Museum of Fine Art and the Shaoguan Museum of Fine Art in Guangdong Province, China, and the Academy Museum in Easton, Maryland.

He has received numerous awards from the Oil Painters of America and other national exhibitions and has participated in prestigious invitational exhibitions throughout the United States, China, Israel, and Europe. His work has been featured in numerous publications, including American ArtistArt of the WestWestern Art and Architecture, and Western Art Collector. His work has also been featured in American Artist WorkshopSouthwest Art, and other leading art publications.
