“Autumn Shallows”
(Bow River Valley and Vermilion Lakes, Canadian Rockies near Banff)
“Just outside of Banff in the Canadian Rockies, a narrow road edges Vermilion Lakes. Almost every day of the year, photographers line the road even before dawn and again just before sunset to capture the many moods of the Vermilion Lakes and iconic Mt. Rundle which lies off the painting to the left rising above the town of Banff. The valley is a photographer’s or artist’s dream no matter which direction one turns. By mid-to-late September, streams and lakes grow shallow, revealing sand bars and grasses once covered by higher waters fed by the Bow River in the background. Patterns of varying shape, color and texture are created by the myriad, meandering little streamlets. Low, autumn sun casts longer shadows while setting off the rich color of trees and shrubs changing for the season, as distant peaks show off their first snow.” Darcie Peet
