“A spur-of-the-moment idea took us to Monument Valley in northeastern Arizona, over a wintry New Years. Though cold, we truly wanted to see what the many sun and shadow colors of light cast across snow did in contrast to the red rock formations. To really spend time seeing the various monuments and learning about the legends and history of the valley, we hired a private Navajo guide to experience the long loop road into the valley for late afternoon-sundown light. From what we learned, we were up before dawn the next day to experience the ever-changing, early morning light. We watched shadows, ever so slowly creep, tiptoe and recede, in all kinds of patterns as the sun gradually rose higher. Not even a whisper of wind and not a sound around.” Darcie Peet
