“On a spring cycling trip to California wine country, this day’s ride took us north through Napa Valley.  Early in the season, the vines are bright green, with many entrance roads lined with roses for a pop of color to entice visitors in for wine tasting.  As I rode, scanning the rolling countryside, I happened to glance to the left, and what so caught my attention and caused me to stop was this simple, solitary flagpole and American flag rippling in the breeze out in the middle of these broad, undulating vineyards.  It was so unexpected, and what a sense of pride for the property owner and all those passers-by it surprised.”   Darcie Peet
