Ken Payne Victory On The Greasy Grass Native American Indian horse action western bronze sculpture American flag army cavalry

“Victory On The Greasy Grass”

The Battle of Greasy Grass June 25-26, 1876, also known as The Battle of Little Bighorn and Custer’s Last Stand is depicted by Ken Payne in his historical sculpture “Victory On The Greasy Grass”. This Native American warrior is celebrating the spoils of victory while wearing a cavalry jacket and holding the American flag. The Battle of Greasy Grass derives from the Lakota name for the battle, termed after the “greasy” appearance of the grass in the waters near the battle site.
