Rose Ann Day Delicate Beauty Native American Indian pottery basket relics flowers floral still life western oil painting

“The inspiration for Delicate Beauty was my love of Native American artifacts. The pottery pieces are all from Santa Clara Pueblo north of Santa Fe in New Mexico. The black pot on the left was made by Stella Chavarria a relative of the renowned potter Margaret Tafoya, and is in my personal reference collection. Santa Clara potters have been making pottery from the clay near their Pueblos for two thousand years. The color variations are a result of hand forming, finishing and firing techniques passed on for generations.

The small coil basket is Tohono O’Odham “Papago”. This group of Native Americans are from Arizona and their baskets are made from indigenous plants and dyes.”   Rose Ann Day
